Liz is completing a double major in Chemistry and Art History. She previously served as Features Editor for Volume 47. Elisa graduated with a double major in Psychology and Professional Writing and Communication in 2021. She previously worked as Editor-in-Chief of Compass Volume 8. If you ask Elisa what she’s passionate about, she’d reply, “I don’t know. Everything, yet nothing, I guess.” If you ask Elisa what she wants to be when she grows up, she’d reply, “I don’t know. We’ll see.” Well, at least Elisa is confident about her love for The Medium. Going into her third year, May is currently completing a double major in Sociology and Criminology. Before becoming News Editor, May contributed The Medium for two years as a Staff Writer and Associate Features Editor. One of her biggest goals is to launch a nonprofit organization that mediates humanitarian crises around the globe and that supports children living in third-world countries. When she is not writing or studying, May spends her time working with canine coaches to provide supervised fun to four-legged furry friends at Dogtopia Applewood.
Aroni is a fourth-year student completing a double major in Political Science and English. She previously served as the Associate Comment Editor for Volume 47. Aroni is keen on enabling a safe and trusted space within the student body for students to critically think about issues that matter to them—both on a personal to global scale. Outside of studying, writing, and editing, she loves to dance to classic Bollywood tunes, cycle while listening to music or a podcast, write in her blog, and watch endless K-dramas on Netflix and Viu. Ricardo graduated with a Professional Writing and Communications major, and a Physics and Mathematics double minor in 2021. He also graduated with a huge spending problem. Think of every Apple product on the market—Ricardo has it. You can catch Ricardo at the nearest Apple store replacing his MacBook’s battery for the fifth time. “It’s because of the endless hours I spend writing,” he assures. Danica graduated with a double major in Professional Writing and Communication and English in 2021. She has been with The Medium since Volume 46 as Associate Arts & Entertainment Editor. This year, she is excited to work as A&E Editor and looks forward to exploring the timelessness of art forms and showcasing student talent. If Danica is not taking a nap or pulling out her hair trying to write, she spends most of her time binging shows and movies, dancing, or playing video games (often with a bubble tea in hand).
Duaa is a third-year student completing a double major in Professional Writing and Communication and Biology. She is in love with coffee and becomes way too attached to books and TV shows. Duaa plans to pursue journalism in the future. She is passionate about writing both nonfiction and fiction. In her free time, Duaa likes to read, write short stories, and paint.
Hayden is a third year student double majoring in Computer Science and Economics. He previously served as Assistant Photo Editor for Volume 47. Manjot is in her fifth and final year specializing in Art and Art History. She is looking forward to perfecting the art of sleeping after she graduates, as she has been in a perpetual state of sleep deprivation. When she is not fighting to sleep or studying, she spends her time watching TV shows, reading, designing, drawing, printmaking, or overthinking life. What she loves the most is to create stories and connections that come alive through art and design.
Juliana is a third year student completing a double major in English and Professional Writing and Communication. She previously served as Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper. When Juliana is not writing essays (she does that a lot), Juliana loves to read, play violin, sing, fangirl over multiple TV shows, and completely spoil her two dogs.
Miguel graduated with a double major in English and Professional Writing and Communication in 2021. He has contributed as a Sports and Arts writer for The Medium and has published and edited stories in several campus journals. Miguel started writing when he was seven years old with blatantly plagiarized blockbuster hits written on sheets of stapled paper and sold to his parents for nickels and dimes. Since then, Miguel has developed an obsession with stories as a means to share the way people experience and construct the world around them. Nik is a fourth year student majoring in Art and Art History with a minor in Cinema Studies. He is hugely passionate about the art of cinema and how stills and moving images can impact the viewer in unique ways. When he is not studying and has down time, he likes to invest his time into making YouTube videos, drawing, playing around with graphic design or discussing about art history. Belicia graduated with a double major in CCIT and Professional Writing and Communication in 2020. During her undergrad, she was involved as Social Media Director and Vice-President of UTM Scribes. She also wrote for The Medium as a Staff Writer from 2018 to 2020. Now that Belicia has graduated, she spends her time working as a writer, graphic designer, and photographer—all fields she’s passionate about—and obsesses over TikToks on the side. Dalainey is completing her fifth and final year at UTM double majoring in Linguistics and Anthropology. She previously served as a Staff Writer for The Medium‘s Volume 47. Through her passion for languages, Dal hopes to create a fun and inviting atmosphere for students through her contributions to the school paper. Maneka is a second-year student pursuing a double major in philosophy and political
science. For Maneka, be it at an interview or during casual meets, the “tell me a little bit
more about yourself” question is the worse. It always freaks her out since she genuinely
does not know what to say or what they want to know. She’d rather learn more about
them. When not studying, writing, or napping, Maneka is probably binge-watching, or rather
re-watching tv shows, singing, or listening to music.
Kareena is a second-year student double majoring in Criminology and Sociolegal Studies and Philosophy. Through her contributions to The Medium, Kareena hopes to encourage students to let their voices and stories be heard. When Kareena is not writing or studying, you can find her shooting hoops, watching true crime mysteries, or cooking.
Larry is a second year student specializing in accounting. He finds writing to be extremely powerful, being an outstanding medium to spread messages, and thus a phenomenal way to express oneself. Through his contributions to The Medium, Larry hopes that everyone can witness how enjoyable and invigorating writing can be, such that they too may be inspired to write. When he’s not studying or writing, you can find Larry listening to music on the stairs next to the North Field, contemplating what life’s next story would be.
Razia is currently completing a specialist in molecular biology with minors in chemistry and statistics. She began writing for The Medium as a news writer over a year ago and took this opportunity as a way to challenge herself and step out of her comfort zone. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, painting, photography, and is a music enthusiast. She is also a huge Potterhead (anyone in Ravenclaw?!). Gladys is completing a major in Art & Art History and a double minor in Psychology and Professional Writing & Communication. Passionate about multimedia art and film, she is currently an artist-in-residence at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Gladys combine art and writing to visualize emotions and explore the unconscious. Simrah is a third year student majoring in CS and doing a double minor in Psychology and Mathematics. She was previously a photographer for The Medium but is now one of the Associate Photos Editors. Helen is a fifth year student double majoring in English and Professional Writing and Communication. She illustrates for The Strand at UofT and has also illustrated for Compass Volume 6. Her earliest art memory was when her classmate in kindergarten taught her to press the pencil hard enough to feel the rays of the sun she drew on paper. Helen is also a founder and illustrator for Corona Comix Inc. which features stories concerning Covid-19 experiences. Its first chapter will be released in late September 2021. Vera is in her final year at UTM and is completing a specialist in Criminology, Law, and Society. She previously worked as the News Editor in Volume 47 of The Medium. Vera’s biggest passions are environmentalism, art, and investigative journalism which she channels into her work with the newspaper. Erin Delaney graduated in 2021, majoring in Communication and minoring in Professional Writing and Visual Culture. She first began writing for The Medium in 2019 and became the Editor of the short lived but much-loved Satire section for the Winter 2020 semester. She has also written for the 2021 edition of Mindwaves.When Erin isn’t thinking of jokes, she’s usually playing with her dog, contemplating the end of the world, or thinking about how she should write more. Julia is a fourth year student majoring in English and minoring in Drama and Professional Writing and Communication. Last year, she had the pleasure of writing articles for the Arts & Entertainment section of The Medium. Aya likes to watch the world burn. In other words, she’s a Political Science and Sociology double major in her fourth year. She writes the Ear To The Ground column this year, where she basically talks about UTM’s happenings and student life. She’s worked at The Medium for three years now, starting off as a staff writer, levelling up to be Opinion Editor last year, and now she gets to be her quirky self through the column!
Haya Abu Ghosh is a fourth-year student double majoring in English and Political Science. When I am not doing any school work, I love going out with friends to coffee shops and dining in restaurants to socialize. My passions include but are not limited to reading, writing, sketching, binge-watching Netflix TV shows, taking pictures of nature and talking about politics (do not get me started talking about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Indigenous injustices, Uyghur Muslims in China and many more topics).
Robert is completing a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in accounting. He has served as a Staff Writer for two years. Upon completing first year Robert was unsure of which programs were available to him and what to commit his time into. Curious, he took writing courses and began writing short stories on his free time which led him to The Medium. He loves the competition that sports brings and spends his time watching or playing Basketball, Tennis, or Soccer.
Aidan is a third-year PWC major at UTM with a double minor in Film Studies and English Literature. His pastimes include skiing the Coast Mountains, talking about movies, and playing four-chord songs on the guitar. His weakness—aside from being a perfectionist, obsessively punctual, and a mess of all other cliches—is writing witty and informative bios. Anjalli graduated with a Specialization in Political Science and a minor in English. Through her contributions at The Medium, she aims to educate readers on the unique complexities of life and how we strive to overcome challenges collectively through policies and voice. In her free time she enjoys reading the latest news, meditating by her Saje diffuser, or looking at Pinterest for fashion inspiration. Hema is currently in her fourth year at UTM, pursuing a double major in Linguistics and French language teaching. She hopes that students can learn just as much through reading her articles as she does through writing them. When she’s not writing for the Features or News section, you can usually find her reading, baking, trawling for books at the nearest Indigo, or obsessing over her Stardew Valley farm. Shreya is in her first year at UTM, seeking a double major in business management and English. She hopes to bring attention to worldwide issues and inspire others to change their mindsets through her contributions to The Medium. When she is not writing articles, you can find her sipping coffee and reading, watching classic films, listening to music, or engaging in photography.
Sherene graduated with a double major in Communication, Culture, Information & Technology and Professional Writing. It wasn’t until her third year at UTM that she realised she wanted to be a writer and thus began contributing to campus publications including The Medium. When she’s not stressing over the anxieties of adult life with Buffy the Vampire Slayer playing in the background, she loves to write, draw, drink milk tea and buy more journals than she’ll ever need.
Shruti is currently in her second year at UTM and is double majoring in Psychology and English. Aside from trying to meet deadlines, she pours over books, repeatedly watches Doctor Who and Iron Man, bakes, and gets bullied by her cat.
Lexey is in her third year as an English Specialisation and Professional Writing minor. She previously was Editor-In-Chief of Laurentian’s student newspaper The Lambda and is currently the UTM Bureau Chief for The Varsity after transferring. Hamna is in her third year at UTM, specializing in Digital Enterprise Management. The only thing she loves more than her mug collection is writing. She writes for The Medium because she loves to talk, but more importantly because she feels that one of the most beautiful elements of humanity is discourse. In Hamna’s eyes there’s too much going on in the world for us to stay ignorant and she just wants to do her part in bringing some of the matters, big or small, to light and encourage others to share their perspectives. In her free time she likes drinking chai, obsessing over her bookshelf, and reading complex technical books to her nieces and nephews.
Serena is a third year Art History and Professional Writing and Communications student at UTM. As a creative, she’s always been fond of viewing and creating art, and writing poetry.
