“Self-portrait”

Laura Tovar, Self-portrait, Digital Drawing, 2020

Growing up can be difficult. It’s hard to decide when you have “outgrown” pieces of yourself that once felt fundamental to who you were in a younger version. In Self-Portait, I wanted to use different colours to represent all of the parts that make me, me. Whether those things are “childish” or something I once held dear in my younger years, I would not be who I am today without them.

Laura Tovar is a 22-year-old Art and Art History student and a graphic designer. Art has always been a passion of hers, and something she has always used to express herself. Laura hopes to get involved with animation in future endeavours. If you wish to see more of her art and support her as a growing artist, please check out her Instagram @laurattdraws.

Design Editor (August-January, Volume 50) — Laura is a fifth-year student finishing up a double major in English and the Art & Art History joint program with Sheridan. In the past, she has had experience working with the Mindwaves & Compass magazines, as well as social media and graphic design for a marketing firm. Besides her obvious passion for art, Laura enjoys spending time with her dog, watching shows, and playing video games. You can connect with Laura on her website or LinkedIn.
