Starting this year, The Medium is introducing paid opportunities for our Staff Writers, Associate Editors, Design Associates, and Staff Designers. Whether you love drawing or writing, there are more ways to turn your passions into paid work experience that you can use to build your resume while getting paid!

ASSOCIATE EDITORS
Associate Editors are selected by Section Editors in October/November and take on a more consistent writing role within their specific section.
As an Associate Editor, you’ll be receiving $23/piece created for your designated section.
Associate Editors are selected through: (a) an application process overseen by Section Editors or (b) through a handpicking process.
STAFF WRITERS
Staff Writers can earn their title and role after creating a minimum of six pieces, including articles or illustrations.
Once appointed to a Staff Writer, you’ll receive $18/article written.
DESIGN ASSOCIATES & STAFF DESIGNERS
Design Associates and Staff Designers will be paid according to the complexity of each project as recommended by the Design Editor based on the following payment hierarchy:
- Associate Tier: $23/Piece
- Staff Tier: $18/Piece
Projects can include illustrations or other visual work produced for The Medium.

Associate Editors and Design Associates are selected by their respective Section Editors.
Selection may happen through:
- An application process overseen by Section Editors
- Direct selection by Section Editors
