Editorial: Let uncertainty lead the way
Life will sometimes take you on paths you weren’t expecting, and that’s okay.
Stop for a second and think about how you got to where you are right now. It may be the place you’re reading this at, the job you’ve found yourself in, or the mental state you’re currently in. Did you plan it?
More often than not, the answer to that question is “no.” Perhaps you had an overarching idea of where you would be in life right now: in a different program, a different school, or a different country. Perhaps you made choices in the past that led you to this moment—a point in life you didn’t expect you’d be in, yet here you are.
Whether you’re going through the motions, or you like where you’re at right now, we’re here to tell you that this is exactly where you need to be. You see, it’s only natural for humans to want life to turn out a certain way. We all want to be happy, be financially stable, have healthy relationships, and have a successful career. And who’s to say that isn’t possible?
We often let uncertainty cloud our judgement. We don’t want to make a wrong move, as that could worsen our situation. But the beauty of making mistakes is that you’ll only know it was a mistake once you’ve learned a lesson from it. And that’s the biggest takeaway here.
Uncertainty is often seen as a negative aspect of life; a killer of dreams, they say. We’re here to tell you that uncertainty can be your best friend. When you learn to embrace uncertainty, you step outside your comfort zone. Comfort zones are comfortable because they’re familiar to us. But familiarity is the true killer of dreams.
This week at The Medium, we encourage you to grow outside your comfort zone and embrace the uncertainty in your life. It’s the only way your creativity will flourish, your personal growth will skyrocket, and your mental health will improve.
