Eric’s Protein Shake Combo

Usually the Blackboard Special is dedicated to desserts, main dishes, and baked goodies, but for this one, we’re trying something different. (New Year, new me, anyone?) This week, Eric Hewitson, a third-year English major and sports editor of The Medium, has contributed his daily grapefruit-flavoured protein shake for the Blackboard Special.

Following the old adage “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, Hewitson prepares his protein shake every morning. As a former Varsity Blues player, Hewitson constantly keeps an eye on his nutritional intake, and says that with this protein shake, he gets most of his recommended daily value for “protein, vegetable, fruit, and vitamin intake early in the day”. (He later adds that with his particular brand of protein powder, he gets his entire recommended daily intake of Vitamin D and 140% of Vitamin E. Dang.)

While Hewitson prefers to add grapefruit to his shake for additional flavour, he also recommends using alternatives such as pomegranate. Personally, I stick to banana or strawberry milkshakes—I can’t even imagine what a grapefruit-flavoured shake would taste like.
