Now that summer is over and the school year has begun, it’s time to stop partying and start studying. Right? Well, not completely. Although the late nights and partying should take a back seat for a while, it doesn’t mean you have to stop completely. Getting back into classes, studying, and learning can be difficult, but all we all have to do it.

You won’t have to study all the time, but take it easy on the crazy PARTYing! Here are some tips to continue with the party life, without neglecting your studies.

Prioritize your time

Everyone always says these three words in university. But seriously, it works. If you leaving everything until the last minute, your weekend is ruined. But if you take a few hours a day to finish things in advance, your life will be less stressful. Besides, you can party the nights away on the weekend without worrying about assignments due on Monday.

Focus during class

With all the new technology that has populated our entire universe, it’s really hard to focus. Blackberry Messenger, iPhone apps, and Facebook might make your boring lectures bearable, but if you pay attention for the hour or two, you’ll find your review of the material less challenging and easier to understand. Just log off Facebook and set your cell phone to “silent”… This will be difficult, but I have faith in you!

Just say no

Sometimes, we just don’t know how to say NO to a really great-sounding party or a night out on the town with friends. But if you have a major test that you need to study for, you can learn how to say the slightly easier, “Rain check?” This can be extremely difficult; we all want an amazing social life. But learning to say no once in a while definitely helps your academic career. After all, downtown Toronto will always be there—and if you have good  friends, so will they.

Remember that school is a big part of your life, but not your entire life. If you keep an appropriate balance it will keep you grounded during the school year. Try not to always party or always study—keep them in balance so you don’t lose yourself along the way. So, even though summer is gone, put on a smile. We’ll still keep it alive with just the occasional wild night out.
